Songwriter Scipio and West Coast rap veteran Kurupt are rolling out their new Los Angeles-praising single “Welcome 2 L.A.” (Gee Mix).
The track features Grammy-nominated vocalist Eric Bellinger and up-and-coming Compton rapper AD and remixes the original version of the track, that was released for sync and licensing back in 2012, with a new melodic and fresh sonic direction.
Manoj, who originally co-wrote on the original track and has done music supervision for Beyoncé and the NBA, adds his production talents to the track. He explained the entire motive behind revamping “Welcome 2 L.A.” was to, “Bring new life to the welcome 2 LA brand and update the sound while also paying homage to my era of hip hop but still making it sound fresh.”
Scipio, who is the creator of the world’s longest rap song “10,000 Hours” has also worked as a songwriter for artists like Ty Dolla $ign and Terrace Martin. His opening verse is especially poignant, as he shouts out late rapper Nipsey Hussle and Lakers icon Kobe Bryant in the same bar, rapping, “And we still miss Kobe and Gianna/We gone lift you up even though it’s all of this drama/And my bro Nipsey Hussle we miss you/On god and mommas the marathon continues.”
